Osteopathic Treatments
CONDITIONS WE TREAT ...
Currently we are working with many
'special needs' children who have conditions
such as ADD, ADHD, Downs Syndrome, Autism
and Behavioural problems. By Concentrating
on their digestive mechanics and working
cranially we are getting fantastic
alterations in temperament and increased
concentration spans.
We also
treat Children for Colic, Aches, Behavioural
Problems & Restlessness.

What does the treatment involve?
Osteopathic treatment varies for
every patient. The actual techniques
are put together in the order and
intensity that is considered
appropraite by the practitioner.
Techniqies such as soft tissue
massage may relax or stimulate
muscles. Articulation is a passive
movement, which involves gentle
stretching of the tissue to improve
joint mobility. Manual traction /
stretching may also be used.
Osteopathic manipulation is a small
precise movement applied to a joint.
This often causes a 'click' or
'popping' sound as the joint
surfaces are separated slightly.This
response allows for a reduction of
local muscle spasms and increases
the range of movement within the
joint. It also results in improving
circulation and drainage to the
surrounding area.
Osteopathic treatment is seldom
painful and should always be gentle.
Patients generally find treatment
pleasant. |

What happens on the first visit?
Firstly, a full case history will be
taken of the patients current
problem. Then a full medical case
history including details of past
operations / illnesses, previous
injuries, leisure activities,
employment and general fitness. The
physical examination then follows
through observation,
palpation(feeling) and mobility
testing.
To allow us to feel the exact extent
and cause of the injury Osteopaths
use their highly tuned sense of
touch (palpation) similar to that of
a blind person, allowing us to feel
tissue damage to an accurate degree.
Combined with our knowledge of
anatomy and the engineering
processes of the body, our
diagnostic skills are exceptionally
advanced. |
