SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

What is Shockwave Therapy?

What can Shockwave treat?

Shockwave therapy also referred to as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), is a non-invasive treatment for soft tissue injuries such as:

  • Plantar Fasciitis/ Heel Pain

  • Chronic Tendinopathy:

    • Achilles

    • Patellar

    • Gluteal

    • Proximal Hamstrings

    • Tennis Elbow

    • Golfers Elbow

    • Shin Splints

    • Shoulder pain (Calcific Tendinopathy)

  • Myofascial Pain

What does treatment involve?

Shockwave Therapy passes short, intense sound waves into affected tissues to provide fast pain relief, accelerated healing and increased mobility.

These shockwaves work by causing microtrauma increasing blood flow and stimulating an acute inflammatory response which aids the healing process.

Benefits include:

  • Pain Relief – Helps relieve pain and accelerate healing.

  • Fast recovery – Faster results compared to other therapies and treatments.

  • No medication – no need for treatment before, during or after treatment.

  • Non-invasive treatment

  • Fast treatment: 10-20 minutes per session (3+ sessions required)

  • High success rates – up to 90% effective and starts instantly.

Are there any side effects?

Typically patients experience a reduced level of pain in their condition or no pain at all immediately after the treatment. Occasionally, mild/ diffused pain may occur a few hours after treatment which subsides after a day or two.

Shockwave therapy has National Institute for Health and Care Excellence NICE guidance and FDA approval for many indications.
